Siem Reap
October 24, 2010 – 12:00 am
Towards the end of my family’s visit, we took a four-day, “mini” vacation to Siem Reap, Cambodia. As our car isn’t very dependable, we rented a van, which worked out extremely well. The trip was approximately 5 hours long, but the time flew as we watched the colorful countryside speed past the windows. We stayed ...read more...
Our New Blog!
October 23, 2010 – 2:53 pm
Dear Friends, We began the Nate and Christiana and their crazy adventures blog soon after we married and moved to Southern California. It was our way of staying connected with family and friends. Since that time, however, several things have changed–the addition of our daughter, Ava, and our subsequent move to Cambodia, Southeast Asia. Our ...read more...
Ava: One Year in Pictures
October 23, 2010 – 12:27 pm
Some friends gave Christiana a great idea to take a picture of Ava every month, with the same toy, to see her progression through the first year. We missed one month during our move to our current home in Cambodia, but we have 11 out of the 12 months! You can view them all together ...read more...
Ava’s 1st Birthday!
October 20, 2010 – 8:28 am
Our little girl was born one year ago–October 3, 2009. She made her grand debut in Los Gatos, CA, and after three wonderful months of life in the States with our families and friends, we left for Cambodia in January 2010. Taking a 3-month 0ld to Cambodia may have seemed like sheer insanity, but, in ...read more...
First Family Visitors!
October 19, 2010 – 3:48 am
We were thrilled to have our first family visitors at the beginning of this month. My parents, John and Carolyn, arrived October 1st and my sister and brother-in-law, Bethany and Joseph, came a few days later. It’s a strange thing to anticipate the arrival of such beloved ones–to hug them closely, as opposed to merely ...read more...
My 32nd (tee sam-sup pbee) Birthday
October 16, 2010 – 3:57 am
In Cambodia, you refer to someone according to their relationship to you, as in a familial structure. For instance, if someone is approximately your age or the age of an older sibling, you say “Bong” (in place of the personal pronoun “you”). If someone is younger, perhaps the same age as a younger sibling, you ...read more...
Our Second Anniversary
October 16, 2010 – 2:55 am
Thanks to a generous gift from my parents, Nate and I were blessed to celebrate our 2nd anniversary (August 8th) in style. We stayed one night in one of the nicer hotels in Phnom Penh (Raffles). Ava was privileged (emphasis on “privileged”) to join us, but she was informed that this would be the last ...read more...
