Our family was so blessed this past week to get away for a wonderful holiday to the coast. This was Paton’s first vacation, first time to the ocean, and our first trip since our wonderful stay at the Leith’s cabin, during our home assignment last year. Despite the crazy “We’re going to die!” 3-hour taxi trip, the many sleepless nights (all of us light sleepers in one room), a faulty air conditioning unit (chilly aircon being one of the highlights when we stay in hotels!), and Ava having several minor falls and an encounter with a red ant hill (she was covered with them at one point, though Nate brushed them off before she realized–praise the Lord for no bites!)–despite all of these things, it truly was a marvelous time, and we’re grateful for such opportunities, especially since the Lord uses them for the necessary refreshment, renewal, and resolve to continue in the work that He has set before us.
- It was a little cramped in the taxi
- Passing a large truck–one of the scariest car rides I’ve taken
- Eating PB&J and enjoying the marvelous view at the Independence Hotel
- Our two extra room mates
- Male bonding
- Short walk to the coast
- Bathtime in the sink
- Tuk tuk into town
- Paton lounging

- Ava loved the sand, but not the waves
- Ava wanted to take a boat ride…
- …but then quickly changed her mind
- So Nate went solo
- The Peapod worked great for the beach

- Ava had quite a commentary on the crocs
- Another day at the beach…this time, in the evening to avoid the sun!
- Paton loved feeling the sand…
- …and eating it too!
- Feet
- Makeshift high chair
- Eating dinner on the beach
- We ordered “beach” service
